Mid Year Conference: QLD
"To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing." - Martin Luther
At Mid Year Conference 2017, we want to gain a greater sense of how and why to pray based on Jesus' own prayer life. Meet the Speaker
John North is a godly guy hailing from the hills of Sydney. As this year's guest speaker for Mid Year Conference, John will be teaching us about prayer in the life of Jesus and what that means for us. When he isn't busy being the National Director of Ambassadors for Christ International, he is at home or adventuring with his wife Lois and their four kids. John's great knowledge of the Bible was gained through his education at Dallas Theological Seminary and his service around the world which he is excited to share with us! Here is a little Q&A and a message from John to get to know him better.
What do you do day to day as a career?
I am the National Director of Ambassadors for Christ International
What's your prior involvement/experience with Power to Change?
I love speaking into the lives of uni students and have done the teaching at close to 20 MYCs in NSW and QLD over the years.
What most excites you about God? About prayer?
Religion is worthless without a real relationship with God. It's that relationship with God that transforms our lives. What excites me about prayer is that I am interacting in the most intimate way with the God who loves me. Prayer is not first of all about getting answers. It's about knowing God.
What do you hope to see and experience at this conference (can be silly or funny)?
I think we should see the missionaries do a special item at the dance party!
What's something most don't know about you?
I was born in India. I play DOTA. I don't like chocolate.
I want to give you the greatest gift I could give you as a Christian. I want to teach you to pray. Your relationship with God will grow to the level of your prayer life. I'm going to take you on a journey into the prayer life of Jesus. God wants to meet with you each day, to lead you, to shape your life. If you are investigating Christianity, I can't think of a better picture of what it looks like to know God. See you there!
What We'll Get Up To
Worship: We get to come together and worship God through music a couple times a day and even have a night of Praise and Worship lead by our worship band!
Quiet Time: While we want everyone to gather together to learn from the Bible, we also want you to get alone time to read the bible, talk to God, and process anything you may be learning.
Nightlife: In the evenings there will be time to play games, have a chat, do crafts, and have fun with the new people you are meeting!
Teaching: We get hear and learn from our main speaker John North. He’ll be teaching out of the Bible about prayer in the life of Jesus.
Training: There will be multiple opportunities to break out into sessions to learn about God, be trained in how to talk to people about Jesus, or be part of leading the movement at your campus!
Going Global: Power to Change wants the Gospel to be made known not only on university campuses in Australia, but all over the world! With this goal in mind, we’ll get to hear about the places we can go overseas for a summer or longer to share our faith with others.
Free Time: Teaching and training can be fun, but we like to break it up a bit and have fun with new and old friends. Beach time, sport, and other activities are what students typically find themselves doing during their free time.
Campus Time: Bond with people from your own campus or area! Campus time is important to us because it encourages us to continue pursuing God and community even when conference is over.
International Community: MYC is a place for both local Australian and International students can come together to connect with Jesus and each other. There will be arrangements made for our friends whose first language isn’t English to experience the same teaching and training everyone is engaging in and in community with other international students!

Why should I attend MYC?
Power to Change Campus’ MYC is specifically designed to help you - as a student in QLD - join with other students from your campus in living out Jesus’ commission in your everyday life. At MYC you will build and deepen friendships with fellow students that will continue to grow through the rest of the year. We’ll be talking about things immediately relevant to your situation on campus, and providing practical skills that will help you follow Jesus more closely in second semester. And you will come to understand how and why Power to Change does things on your campus, and where you fit and what you can contribute.
Who is MYC for?
MYC is designed especially for tertiary students, but anyone with an interest in attending is very welcome. We will have families, graduates, and friends joining us. Final year high school students and young adults will find MYC most beneficial.
Who will be at MYC?
The primary attendees of MYC will be uni students from Queensland. There will be lots of opportunities to spend time with old and new friends.
Can I invite friends who are not part of Power to Change?
You certainly can; MYC is for all young adults who have a desire to grow in their relationship with God, whether they are just finding out about Him or have been Christians for a long time. Most of the input at MYC will beneficial to anyone journeying with God, not just those specifically involved in Power to Change.
Can people who are not Christians come to MYC?
Yes, everyone is welcome to attend MYC regardless of their spiritual background. If you are investigating and asking questions about God and spiritual issues, MYC is a great opportunity to connect with people happy to chat in a relaxed way about this. You won't be asked to participate in any activities you don't feel comfortable with, and there will be alternate options available during things like small group ministry training.
What will we do at MYC?
The program each day at MYC combines Bible teaching, small group practical ministry training, worship, and plenty of free time which has optional activities. There is time scheduled each day to spend some time alone with God, and also to connect with a small group of people to encourage each other during the week. MYC is designed to help you connect with God and with those around you.
Will there be free time? What activities are there?
There will be free time most afternoons and evenings. Optional activities will be available, but you're very welcome to use that time to have some downtime from the program. The activities will include things such as ultimate frisbee, tennis, soccer, board games, craft, karaoke, cafes and other opportunities to connect with others around fun activities.
Is it an issue if I don't know anyone else going to MYC?
There are plenty of opportunities to get to know people at MYC, in fact MYC is designed for people who may now know many others. You'll be in a room (same gender) with others from your campus and that will give you an opportunity to meet as a prayer and reflection group throughout the week, as well as geting to know others in your training group, and from your state and uni during the 'Get Connected' time. Fun free time activities throughout the week are another great opportunity to meet new friends.
What do I need to bring?
You can find a list of what to bring with you to MYC on the What to Bring page.
What is the accommodation like?
The MYC venue is made up of one or two bedroom accomodation, each with an ensuite shower, separate toilet, and a kitchenette.
Who will I be rooming with?
You'll be allocated a cabin with 3 - 5 other people of the same gender (except in the case of families and married couples). During the registration process you can indicate if there are people you would particularly like to room with and we'll do our best to put you with at least one of those people. However if you don't have a particular preference or if you don't know anyone else at MYC, you'll be placed with people from your campus or region so you can get to know some new friends.
Can I come part time?
You are very welcome to come to as much of MYC as you're available for; before you register, contact us to let us know when you're planning to attend and we'll let you know the part time rate for that time and give you special instructions for registering.
How do I pay?
Payments can be done via online banking or if you want to pay cash they will be hangled by your Campus Registrar; contact them to find out how to pay. If you would like to pay by credit card, let us know via the Contact Us page (processing fees apply).
I can't afford the cost of MYC, what can I do?
We know that MYC can be expensive for students, even though the value is good. We don't want finances to be a barrier to anyone attending, so if you're not able to afford the cost of MYC, please contact your Campus Registrar to find out about the subsidies available.
