Story by Tila Desalegn.
“After I graduated from nursing, I worked for three-and-a-half years at a hospital in Logan. I had been a student at Queensland University of Technology, where I did a Bachelor of Nursing.
I’m now a missionary at QUT. It’s obviously quite different being here in a missionary role as opposed to being a student. Now I can see all the work that goes into ministering to uni students – all the work that went into me!
I was in my first year of study when someone offered me a Bible on campus and I took it. After a year of reading the Bible and questioning things I realised I was only ‘Christian by name’. I became convicted by the words of Jesus. Little did I know at the time, it was the beginning of my life changing forever. Fast forward many years and I’ve come back to work here.
It was the beginning of the semester earlier this year when I met Tim (name changed). He came by our orientation week stall and was interested in catching up and hearing more about PTC. I met with Tim for several weeks where we would go through Christianity Explained together.
In our third session, I learned he had a fear of going to hell. So, I whipped out a Knowing God Personally booklet and told him that he didn’t have to be afraid if he put his trust in Jesus. I could tell he was close to making a commitment, but there was still something holding him back.
I gave him some things to think about for the next week, some ways to work around the barriers he mentioned.
In the fourth session, Tim and I went through the lesson and afterwards we circled back to our earlier conversation. I asked if he had any more thoughts on what we’d talked about the previous week? Tim said he did and that he thought he was ready to give his life to Christ!
We went through the Gospel again, prayed together, and he committed his life to Christ in that moment.
Yes, it was awesome!”
