Accelerate Interns Program

Application closes on Sunday, 31 August.

Why join the Accelerate Interns program?

This program is designed to help interns explore how they can meaningfully contribute to the Great Commission, embracing their unique God-given design within the primary context of Power to Change’s Campus Strategy.

Training and Development

💡

Equipping Interns for Ministry
Interns will be prepared to serve in campus ministry teams, utilising head, heart, and hands.

🔍

Facilitating S.H.A.P.E. Discovery
Interns will engage in a tailored journey of discovery to identify their unique spiritual gifts, heart’s desires, abilities, passions, and experiences (S.H.A.P.E.), equipping them for future service.

🌍

Providing Real Ministry Exposure
Interns will gain practical experience to “taste and see” the dynamic aspects of Campus Ministry, offering them a comprehensive understanding of this work and exposure to wider Power to Change local and global ministry expressions.

✝️

Personal Formation
A key part of the program is for interns to grow and develop holistically – to not just have more knowledge and skills in ministry but to be developed in their whole lives, being aligned and oriented around the Gospel and their identity in Christ.

Your 24-Month Ministry Journey

The proposed training program runs over 24 months. It is divided broadly into four training semesters, from August to October and from March to May, in both internship years (corresponding to the Australian University semesters and school terms).

In each training semester, interns will focus on 5-6 training objectives to promote growth and development. Over the 24 months, you will engage with other fellow interns as a cohort, learning and developing together.

Getting Started 🚀

The first month will serve to set the cohort up for coaching/mentoring (beginning in June), as well as to guide participants in tailoring the program to maximise their growth. The first month will also involve participating in the Winter Conference, getting to know their team and jumping into the start of semester 2 campus ministry.

Accelerate Retreats ⛰️

Every six months, you will gather with your fellow interns for an Accelerate retreat. The retreat is a chance to help cohorts pause, reflect on their journey, and take stock of what they’re learning about God, themselves, and ministry. It will also serve as an opportunity to set up interns well for the next 6 months of the program (revisit goals, etc).

The Final Semester Project 🎯

In the final training semester, Interns will participate in a mini-project designed to expose you to broader ministry experiences and develop further capabilities. Together with your coach, you will decide from a range of projects to participate in.

How Your Ministry Skills Will Grow with Accelerate Interns

Our internship program is built on key components designed to equip you for impactful ministry. Here’s a breakdown of what shapes your typical week:

Personalised Development

Training Objectives

Each semester you will have certain training objectives that you work towards developing. Your week will be partly influenced by those respective objectives. One semester you might be working towards objectives around your personal relationship with God and cultivating spiritual disciplines. Another week you might be working towards developing different evangelism skills, such as how to share the gospel in the context of Christian community.

Competency Cube

Part of how you experience your training each week is through using the Competency Cube. The Competency Cube is a training framework to supercharge your development! This isn’t just a tool; it allows you to personalise a roadmap for growing your ministry skills. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all program. The Competency Cube lets you custom-build your core internship experience on campus around your specific interests, needs, and what you want to achieve. The Competency Cube allows you to track your wins by setting clear goals and see in what ways you have grown.

Hands-On Ministry Experience

Field Ministry Expectations

The final thing that determines how your week is structured is your field ministry expectations. Each of our campus teams are working with different campuses, handling different obstacles, and employing different strategies. You will engage with your Campus Team Leader to work out how you can contribute to the ongoing work that your campus team is doing. This can include things like:

Evangelism through Ministry, Natural, and Body modes
  • Ministry Mode involves intentional outreaches, engaging with new students on campus.
  • Natural Mode is recognising your own natural circles and taking steps to reach the people around you.
  • Body Mode involves our greater Christian community; this could be social events, or just having people who are exploring Christianity having meals with your Christian students.
Discipleship of students
  • This could be one-to-one discipleship or small groups. Each team is looking to build and train their involved students through methods that work for their context. You will get to be a part of this!
Working with your team

There are many things that you will work with your team to accomplish. Some of these include:

  • Strategising and planning, whether that’s major events like conferences or Summer Missions, or even the whole strategy for a semester!
  • Joining with your team in regular prayer; for each other, for your students and friends, and more!
  • Contributing to the development of the team. So much of ministry is about empowering our fellow co-workers. Joining and contributing to the development of the team as a whole is a key part of what it means to be a ministry worker.
Engaging ministry partners through updates and opportunities

You will have many ministry partners who have committed to partner with you in prayer and finances to see students reached and impacted. You will keep them updated about how God is working through their partnership with you on campus.

Reflection & Support

Weekly Cohort Coach Meeting

Each week you and your fellow interns will meet with your Intern Cohort Coach. The cohort meeting will be a place to share and reflect with each other on ministry and unpack what they are learning about God, of themselves, and their experience.

Weekly Journal

You will fill in a weekly journal (with pre-prepared questions). The purpose of the journal entry is to help you be proactive in evaluating your ministry, reflect on things learned, consider your progress, and think about intentional action steps for the coming weeks.

Funding Your Ministry

At Power to Change, we believe in the power of partnership. Our approach to financial support empowers you to build a team of ministry partners who invest directly in your impactful work.

It is the policy of Power to Change that missionaries develop a team of Ministry Partners to fund their involvement in the movement. The goal of our salary structure is to provide an income that will allow missionaries to sufficiently meet their needs.

Ministry Partnership Development

One of the very first things you will be given is highly quality training on how to develop a team of ministry partners. This will include a three day Orientation, where you will be given resources and plenty of opportunity to practise skills. You will also be provided with a coach who will be with you for the whole Partner Development journey. This is a journey that no one does on their own. We want to see you developed, resourced, and equipped.

As an intern, your budget has been set for you. We recognise that living varies between cities and living circumstances vary. It is not a requirement for interns to be living out of home; however, we understand that not every applicant will be able to live at home, hence you can select a higher budget which has incorporated an allocated housing allowance. You as the applicant can decide which amount you would like to raise for.

Ministry Partner Development FAQ's

Have questions about Ministry Partnership Development? Check out our frequently asked questions below. Alternatively, you can email James at james.woollett@powertochange.org.au

Who will help me with Ministry Partner Development?

Every person accepted to join the organisation is provided with a Ministry Partner Development Coach. When you first engage with your Ministry Partner Development coach, you will determine which budget you will raise for.

When do I need to finish developing my Ministry Partner Team?

As an intern, you will be expected to have finished developing your ministry partner team by middle of May in the following year of your application.

How many Ministry Partners will I need?

If the typical Ministry Partner gives somewhere between $50 and $100/month, you will need to find 45 to 100 people to partner with you on a regular basis. This may seem really huge! Yet this is where your Ministry Partner Development Coach helps you.

How do I find prospective Ministry Partners?

You need to develop a list of prospective ministry partners. You would start with people you know from your church, family, uni and school friends. And then hopefully they will refer you onto people you may not even know yet.

What does "finishing developing your Ministry Partner Team" mean?

To finish, you will need to have raised 100% of your monthly goal and have 200% of your monthly goal already deposited in your ministry account.
